How IB transfer credit works in Canada
Most Canadian universities award first-year credit for Higher Level (HL) IB courses completed with a score of 5, 6, or 7. A few institutions also recognize select Standard Level (SL) courses. The award is usually either an assigned credit (a specific course such as BIOL 111) or an unassigned credit (general credit such as BIO 1XX that counts toward your degree but not a specific course).
The totals in this calculator are shown in each university's own credit unit. A "credit" at McGill is not the same size as a "credit" (FCE) at the University of Toronto, so totals should never be compared directly across universities. What matters is how many first-year courses you may not need to repeat.
Receiving credit does not always reduce tuition. Flat-rate billing, program sequencing, and full-time enrollment requirements can mean the immediate cash saving is zero even when the credit is real.
