FREN-1210 is a named language-training course, not generic elective credit, so it can clear that specific first-year requirement rather than an open slot. It still has to fit the program you enter: UWindsor applies transfer credit only where a course is part of your degree requirements and warns that not all transfer credit aligns with a given program, so check the fit on your Academic Advising Report.
The qualifying score of 5 applies to students who sat the normal IB examinations. The Registrar's admission requirements set a higher bar for applicants assessed under revised IBDP rules (the adjusted assessment methods used when exam sessions were disrupted), who must have "achieved IB grades/scores of '6' or more." Confirm which pathway fits your transcript before assuming the 5 will clear.
What to watch for:
- No double credit. You already hold FREN-1210, so retaking it earns no extra credit. The undergraduate calendar lists FREN-1210 and FREN-1220 as antirequisite to any 2000-level French language-training course already completed, so the credit counts only going forward. FREN-1410 (Introduction to Literary Studies) sits in a separate literature stream and does not follow automatically from FREN-1210.
- Which minor. The Minor in French Language is closed to students who hold Grade 12 U French (or equivalent) at CEFRL B2 or higher; the track built around FREN-1210, FREN-1220, FREN-2210 and FREN-2220 is the Minor in French Studies, and at least three of the minor's courses must be completed at UWindsor.
- HL. The published table lists French Language B at the SL level only, so anyone presenting French B at HL should confirm any award with the Office of the Registrar.
Your control point is the transcript, not a later course-by-course choice. UWindsor states that "by releasing your transcript to UWindsor, you will be automatically assessed for transfer credit" and that Ontario students who do not wish to be evaluated "do not need to release their IB transcript" (IB transcript release), though international applicants may still need it to verify admission. Once a credit is assessed you cannot decline it, but you may repeat the course and have the earned grade count in its place.
