💡Expert's Take

Read this award as two separate things: course credit and prerequisite standing. The credit is unspecified 1000-level math (MATH-1xxx), but Windsor's IB equivalency table also credits SL Analysis and Approaches with the Ontario Grade 12 Advanced Functions (MHF4U), Calculus and Vectors (MCV4U), and Data Management (MCM4U) equivalencies, which are the stated prerequisite for first-year calculus.

That prerequisite standing is why the level gap is narrower than it looks. SL does not grant MATH-1720 (Differential Calculus); at HL the same subject adds MATH-1720 itself (see the companion HL page). But because the SL Grade 12 equivalencies match the prerequisite for MATH-1720, or MATH-1760, which the calendar calls equivalent to MATH-1720 for all prerequisite purposes, an SL student can enrol in the calculus course directly, just without already holding its credit. MATH-1720 and MATH-1760 are mutual antirequisites, so you take one route, not both.

What to watch for: Science, Computer Science, and Economics plans name "MATH-1720 or MATH-1760," the Mathematics and Statistics minors list the same pair, and Business uses "MATH-1980/1250/1720/1760" (MATH-1980 is Mathematics for Business). Unspecified MATH-1xxx does not by itself satisfy those named requirements, so whether it lands as useful credit shows on your Academic Advising Report.

Official award line (Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches SL):
Minimum score: 5 under the standard exam pathway; 6 or more where revised IBDP requirements apply
Credit granted: MATH-1xxx, titled "1st year Math Course" on the IB table
The table prints no per-row credit weight; a Windsor course is normally 3.0 credit hours.
