π‘Expert's Take
For IB Computer Science HL at a grade of 5 or higher, TMU's IB Higher Level transfer table lists named credit for CPS 109 and CPS 209, the two introductory programming courses (Computer Science I and Computer Science II), not generic elective credit.
That clears the prerequisite for the courses built directly on CPS 209, namely CPS 305 and CPS 393. It does not complete first year or open all of second year. Courses further along still carry prerequisites the IB award does not cover, for example CPS 420 (which adds MTH 110) and CPS 590 (which adds CPS 393).
What to watch for:
- The credit counts where your program needs it. TMU applies a granted transfer credit to your graduation requirements "if applicable to your program of study", so its value depends on whether your plan actually requires CPS 109 or CPS 209.
- CPS 209's prerequisite is CPS 109 or CPS 106, and CPS 109 carries an antirequisite with CPS 106. If you would rather take CPS 106 yourself, you can have the CPS 109 transfer credit removed by emailing tcredits@torontomu.ca.
- Do not drop or skip a TMU course before the award is confirmed. TMU says it does not recommend dropping a course before official transfer credit results are available, so check your Transfer Credit Report first.
- TMU's table lists only IB HL Computer Science. For the SL outcome, see the Computer Science SL page.
