πŸ’‘Expert's Take

The subject code is the whole story here. C LIT is Comparative Literature, a different department from English, so this award is 3 units of Comparative Literature rather than English credit. The Faculty of Science writing requirement asks for 6 units in English (ENGL) or Writing Studies (WRS), and C LIT is neither, so a BSc student still owes that requirement in full.

English A: Literature HL earns 6 units of ENGL at the same score, double this award and in the subject code that actually counts, so the two English routes are not interchangeable at Alberta. Engineering applicants receive a 3-unit complementary studies elective instead, and the faculty openly recommends declining first-year transfer credit. Alberta does let you decline, on a course-by-course basis, but the decision is final and cannot be reversed.

Official award line (IB Diploma, English A: Language and Literature HL):
Minimum score: 6 (Alberta awards advanced standing for grades of 6 or 7 only)
Credit granted: C LIT 100-level (3 units), or a 100-level complementary studies elective (3 units) for Engineering
Augustana equivalent: AU Humanities 100-level (3 units).
