IB Chemistry SL earns zero transfer credit at the University of Toronto, across all three campuses. This isn't a subject-by-subject or campus-by-campus judgment call; it's a blanket institutional rule. U of T's transfer credit policy for high school students restricts secondary school IB credit to Higher Level exams only. Standard Level results, regardless of score, are excluded from credit assessment entirely.
Chemistry SL isn't entirely without value at U of T; it can satisfy chemistry prerequisites for admission consideration. U of T Arts & Science confirms that prerequisite courses may be presented at Standard Level. So if you need Chemistry for admission to Life Sciences, Pharmacology, or a similar science stream, SL Chemistry can tick that box; it just won't reduce your course load after you arrive.
The contrast with HL is meaningful. What to watch for:
- The SL-for-admission loophole has limits. Chemistry SL may satisfy a high school prerequisite for your chosen program, but it will not satisfy any university course prerequisite at U of T. If a second-year course lists CHM110H5 or CHMA10H3 as a prerequisite, your SL result, regardless of score, does not fulfil it. You will need to take those courses.

If you're already post-IB with SL Chemistry results, the practical advice is to plan for first-year chemistry courses at U of T.
