What is physics?
Physics comes from Greek word meaning the “knowledge of nature”. Physics deals with matter, its motion, and behavior through space and time. It also relates to force and energy, and finally how the universe behaves. Physics might be one of the oldest academic disciplines.
Physics at high schools of USA and Canada
The physics curriculum for British Columbia (BC) and Ontario schools is founded on the same national framework established by the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC). However, each province implements this curriculum in distinct ways. For example, in BC, Physics 12 corresponds to Physics 121 or 122 in New Brunswick, whereas in Ontario, it is equivalent to Physics SPH4U2.
High school education in Canada and the United States shares many similarities in academic rigor, including educational standards, curricula, and assessments. However, the specific level of difficulty can differ based on the region, school district, and individual school. It’s crucial to consider that a student’s personal motivation and work ethic significantly impact the perceived challenge of their education.
Nevertheless, both countries follow the same AP courses and IB curriculum, and our tutors are highly skilled in these areas. Since 2015, Hack Your Course AP and IB Tutoring Service has been dedicated to providing AP and IB students across the United States and Canada with the necessary resources to achieve top scores.
Students’ challenges & what our tutors in The USA and Canada can do?
Learning physics can be challenging for students due to various reasons. Some of these reasons include the following:
– Abstract concepts: Physics often deals with abstract concepts that can be difficult for students to visualize and understand. These concepts, such as force, energy, and fields, may not have immediate real-world examples, or the teachers might not try to relate them to the real world examples, making them harder to grasp.
– Mathematical skills: Physics relies heavily on mathematics to describe and explain phenomena. Students who need help with math may find it challenging to understand the underlying mathematical principles and solve physics problems.
– Problem-solving skills: Physics problems often require critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Students may find developing and applying these skills challenging, especially when dealing with complex or unfamiliar situations.
– Real-world connections: Connecting physics concepts and their real-world applications can be difficult for some students. They may need help to see the relevance of what they are learning and how it applies to their daily lives.
– Language and terminology: Physics has unique language and terminology, which can confuse some students. They may need help understanding and remembering the various terms, symbols, and notations in physics.
– Formula memorization: Physics involves numerous formulas that students must memorize and apply correctly. Remembering and utilizing these formulas can be a significant challenge, especially when dealing with multiple formulas for a single concept.
– Conceptual understanding: Students may struggle to develop a deep conceptual understanding of physics principles. They may focus on memorizing facts and formulas without genuinely understanding the underlying concepts, making applying their knowledge to new situations difficult.
– Time management: AP physics courses and the whole IB curriculum, especially in the semester system, often have a fast-paced curriculum, and students may find it challenging to keep up with the material, complete assignments, and study for exams.
At Hack Your Course AP and IB Tutoring Service, our highly skilled tutors can break down complex physics concepts into easily digestible terms, ensuring that students achieve a comprehensive understanding. Equipped with vast educational resources, our tutors are adept at preparing students to excel in their final exams with confidence and prowess. They also help students with the physics Internal Assessment (IA) or their extended essay if the students choose physics as their subject.
