Does Queen's University give transfer credit for IB Biology HL?

What to watch for:

• Health Sciences: the score-of-6 prerequisite threshold is critical. The Health Sciences IB table explicitly states that to access upper-year BIOL courses requiring BIOL 102 or BIOL 103 as a prerequisite, students must have scored 6 or higher in IB Biology. A score of exactly 5 grants the 6.0 units on the transcript but does not satisfy prerequisite requirements for courses like BIOL 205, which requires a GPA calculated specifically from BIOL 102 and BIOL 103 — and since transfer credit produces no grade, that GPA cannot be calculated. If you plan to pursue upper-year Biology within a Health Sciences degree, scoring exactly 5 may mean you need to retake these courses at Queen's regardless.
• Smith Engineering: no credit granted. The Engineering IB table explicitly lists Biology HL as "No credit." Engineering limits IB transfer credit to a maximum of 6.0 units toward Complementary Studies (humanities, social sciences, and performance arts/languages), and natural science courses like Biology are excluded entirely. Engineering students cannot receive any transfer credit for IB Biology HL, regardless of their score.
• Other faculties: no explicit prerequisite restriction published. The Science, Arts, Computing, Nursing, and Smith Commerce tables all list BIOL 102 + BIOL 103 with no comments about prerequisite limitations. However, the underlying GPA prerequisite issue still applies mechanically: upper-year courses that require a minimum GPA from BIOL 102/103 cannot compute one from transfer credit (which carries no grade). Students in these faculties who plan to take upper-year Biology should consult their faculty advisor to confirm whether the transfer credit will satisfy their specific prerequisite requirements.
• Deadline is firm and unforgiving. Students must arrange for their IB results to reach Queen's Undergraduate Admission before the end of fall term of their first year. Missing this deadline means the credit is considered declined, and the decision is not appealable. Queen's will not request results on your behalf — you must do this through the IBO website yourself.
