Does Western University give transfer credit for IB Physics HL?

What to watch for:

• Physics 1502B is a named equivalency, not a generic TRN credit. Because it is a specific course match, Physics 1502B satisfies the physics prerequisite for upper-year courses that list Physics 1502A/B — including Physics 2101 (Intermediate Physics), Physics 2104 (Introduction to Quantum Mechanics), and Physics 2110 (Oscillations and Waves). Confirm with your academic advisor that the B-suffix credit is being recognized correctly in your Student Center.
• Physics 2104 has additional math prerequisites. Beyond the Physics 1502A/B requirement, Physics 2104 also requires a minimum 60% in Calculus 1301A/B or 1501A/B and a minimum 55% in Mathematics 1600A/B (Linear Algebra I). IB Physics HL provides neither; students targeting quantum mechanics or upper-year theoretical physics tracks will need to plan both math courses in first year.
• Engineering students: verify carefully with Engineering advising. Physics 1401A/B is restricted to Faculty of Engineering students, and it is antirequisite to Physics 1501A/B. Engineering’s own program pages indicate that students entering Engineering must complete the entire common first-year Engineering program. Whether and how an IB Physics HL transfer credit is applied within that structure is not clearly addressed on current public pages. Engineering students should confirm directly with Engineering academic advising before assuming the credit reduces their first-year course load.
• BMSc and Medical Sciences. The 1501A + 1502B combination is explicitly recognized in the Calendar as satisfying the physics prerequisite for all modules offered by the basic medical science departments. The physics credit helps significantly; math requirements are assessed separately and independently.
