Does McGill University give transfer credit for IB Economics HL?

What to watch for:

• The multi-term commitment of ECON 230D1/D2. This is a multi-term course (D1 in fall, D2 in winter) that spans the full academic year. No partial credit is granted—you must successfully complete both D1 and D2 in consecutive terms. If you withdraw partway through, you receive zero credit for the entire sequence and effectively lose a year of progress in the major.
• The mathematical jump is real. ECON 208 assumes no prior knowledge of economics and requires only basic algebra. ECON 230D1/D2 is intermediate microeconomic theory using calculus-based methods (the textbook is Varian's Intermediate Microeconomics). Instructors have explicitly noted that students who find the course's math prerequisites difficult should consider ECON 208 instead. Comfort with derivatives at a Calculus 1 level is expected from day one.
• Faculty-specific rules apply. Engineering students receive a maximum of 3 credits (not 6) for IB Economics HL. If you are entering through the Desautels Faculty of Management (B.Com.) and pursuing the Economics for Management Students major, the pathway differs: you would replace specific management core courses with ECON 230D1/D2 and upper-level theory courses.
