UNB lists this as advanced standing you may be eligible for; the courses are confirmed on your official transfer credit assessment after your IB results are sent from the IB Organization to UNB.
What to watch for:
- Engineering follows different chemistry. At Saint John, engineering students receive CHEM 1872, General Physical and Inorganic Chemistry (3 ch), not the CHEM 1041 and CHEM 1072 sequence. At Fredericton the engineering first-year course is CHEM 1982, Chemistry for Engineers, which is an antirequisite to the CHEM 1012 this award grants, so engineering applicants should confirm placement with the faculty rather than assume the posted award maps onto the engineering plan.
- Only Higher Level counts; IB Chemistry SL earns no UNB transfer credit, since the IB table is HL only (see our Chemistry SL page). If you present several HL subjects, UNB caps total advanced standing at the normal first-year credit hours of your admitted program, so Chemistry HL may be one part of a capped package. Do not drop the equivalent UNB course until your transfer credit assessment confirms the award.
