Yes—students in any AP course, from Calculus BC to English Literature, can get expert one-to-one help with course content, multiple-choice and free-response technique, and timed exam preparation built around College Board scoring guidelines. Tutoring is exam-focused because AP is: for most courses, the May exam decides the score.
No guaranteed scores or college credit, ever. Tutor matching and availability are confirmed after you contact the team.
Exam-focused by design
AP rewards two things: knowing the course and answering in the shape the scoring guidelines reward. Sessions train both, one-to-one.
Close gaps in the actual AP syllabus for the student's course, from Calculus limits to Chemistry equilibrium to rhetorical analysis, taught one-to-one at the student's pace.
AP free-response questions are marked against published scoring guidelines. Tutors train students to answer in the shape the rubric rewards, using released questions and real scoring notes.
For most AP courses the May exam decides the score, so the final stretch matters: timed full papers begin three to four weeks before exam day, with review targeted at what the practice reveals.
Choosing between AP and IB, deciding how many APs to take, or weighing Pre-AP and Capstone options: we help families plan the pathway, not just the exam.

The classic STEM gatekeeper
The exam
Multiple-choice plus six free-response problems, split into calculator and no-calculator parts. BC covers everything in AB and adds series, parametric, and polar topics, and reports an AB subscore alongside the BC score.
How tutoring helps
We rebuild shaky precalculus foundations first, then drill free-response setups and the justification language AP readers actually award points for.

Reasoning in words, not just formulas
The exam
Multiple-choice plus free-response ending in a longer investigative task. Answers are graded on statistical reasoning communicated in precise written language, not on arithmetic alone.
How tutoring helps
Sessions train interpretation and the exact wording the rubric rewards, alongside calculator fluency and experimental-design questions.
Algebra-based or calculus-based; know which
The exam
Physics 1 and 2 are algebra-based; Physics C, split into Mechanics and Electricity & Magnetism, is calculus-based and pairs naturally with Calculus. All variants reward modeling and clear reasoning over plugged-in numbers.
How tutoring helps
We match the tutor to the student's exact course variant and train the reasoning and experimental questions students most underestimate.
Where showing reasoning earns the points
The exam
Multiple-choice plus free-response built around models, particulate diagrams, and lab scenarios, where units, significant figures, and written justification carry real marks.
How tutoring helps
We connect the math to the chemistry, then drill free-response questions until clear explanations become automatic.
Data analysis over memorization
The exam
Multiple-choice plus free-response weighted toward experimental design, data interpretation, and written argumentation rather than recall.
How tutoring helps
Sessions train graph reading, experimental reasoning, and the concise written responses the scoring guidelines reward.
Rhetoric: how writers persuade
The exam
Reading multiple-choice plus three timed essays: rhetorical analysis, argument, and a synthesis essay built from provided sources.
How tutoring helps
We coach thesis precision, evidence selection, and timed drafting on released prompts; every essay stays the student's own work.
Poetry, prose, and the open essay
The exam
Reading multiple-choice plus three timed essays: poetry analysis, prose analysis, and an open literary argument on a work the student chooses.
How tutoring helps
Sessions build close-reading technique and essay structures that hold up under exam-day time pressure.
Two exams, graphs at the center
The exam
Micro and Macro are two separate exams, each with multiple-choice and short free-response questions where correctly drawn and labeled graphs carry the marks.
How tutoring helps
We drill the graphing fluency and cause-and-effect reasoning chains both exams reward, using released questions.

The through-course exception
The exam
The Capstone pair is assessed mainly through performance tasks during the year (AP Seminar also has an end-of-course exam), building toward the AP Capstone Diploma, so steady coaching matters more than a May sprint.
How tutoring helps
Tutors coach research method, argumentation, and presentation on student-owned work, inside College Board integrity rules.

Clear boundary
The only score improvement that survives exam day is the student actually getting better. Our boundary keeps every session on that side of the line.
Students should also follow their school's rules for outside support. The full company standard is published at The Hack Your Course Standard.

Work through content and technique in weekly one-to-one online sessions; graphing tablets are required for Math and Science so tutor and student can solve problems together in real time.
Three to four weeks before exam day, sessions shift to timed full papers reviewed against official scoring guidelines.

We urgently needed Calculus tutoring for my son, and we found HYC quite late in the year. But that did not matter to them; they acted very quickly, introducing us to an excellent tutor who specialized in Calculus tutoring. The quality of the math tutoring we received was outstanding, making a significant difference in Arshia's performance.
We want to express our gratitude to Aria for his persistently competent tutoring on AP calculus rendered to my son. He was nervous when preparing for the exam, thanks to the support and mentoring of Aria, Andrew got some tips how to review and achieved a great score finally. Highly recommend Aria as a tutor in AP Calculus.
I had Arjoon for AP calculus and he was great! Very understanding and didn’t take this too slow or fast. As someone trying to get my grades from low 90s to high 90s he was great at helping me get all the details sorted so I could reach my goal, which I did.
I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for a AP or IB tutor. The manager is professional. He takes his time to explain. They have very experienced AP tutors to help you do well in exams.
Caroline was super sweet and very helpful. I learned a lot and feel confident about my AP exam.

AP exams are scored 1 to 5 by the College Board. Many colleges award credit or advanced placement for a 3 or higher, but every college sets its own policy and selective programs often expect a 4 or 5, so check the policy at each college on the student's list rather than assuming.

AP exams are administered by the College Board each May on a fixed schedule. Consistent weekly tutoring through the year beats a late scramble, and in the final three to four weeks sessions shift to timed full practice papers so exam day holds no surprises.

For most AP courses, no: the May exam alone decides the score, whatever the class grade says. The exceptions are portfolio and Capstone courses such as AP Seminar, AP Research, and AP Art and Design, which include through-course performance tasks. That exam-centric structure is exactly why trained technique on released questions matters so much.

They are different systems: AP is a menu of standalone exam-centric courses, while the IB Diploma is an integrated programme with internal assessments and a core. The right choice depends on the student's school, strengths, and university plans. We tutor both, so our advice is not tied to selling one pathway.

Official Pre-AP courses are a College Board program, but many schools label their own honors classes the same way, and the difference matters for planning. Yes, we support students in Pre-AP and honors courses building toward AP.

Yes. AP Seminar and AP Research build toward the AP Capstone Diploma and include through-course performance tasks. Tutors coach research skills, argumentation, and presentation technique, and give feedback on student-written drafts; the submitted work remains the student's own, as College Board rules require.

No. Tutors teach, train technique, and give feedback on the student's own work; they never complete graded assignments, write essays for submission, or touch anything covered by College Board exam security. Score improvement comes from the student getting better, which is the only kind that survives exam day.
